THE #1 MOST-ASKED QUESTION
Most of the questions we get are about things we don't even make.
Many people ask questions about graphics cards, monitors, joysticks,
rudder pedals, etc. You should always ask the manufacturer those
questions. Many manufacturers also have support forums that can help.

CONSTRUCTION QUESTIONS
Q: What is the difference between the Easy Airliner cockpit and the
Universal Airliner cockpit?
A; The Easy Airliner requires a basement window well cover as an
essential part of the project. If you live in an area where homes do not
usually have basements, then you may have a difficult time finding a
basement window well cover at your local hardware store.
Also, the Easy Airliner is literally easier to build than the Universal
Airliner. The Universal requires more parts and more steps because of
the unique method of joining some of the parts with epoxy putty.
However, both use exactly the same dual keyboard modification.
Q: Where can I find EPS or XPS?
A: Most materials can be found at Lowes or Home Depot, or your
neighborhood hardware store.
Q: What is EPS?
A: It is Expanded Polystyrene. Please see more info about it here.
Q: What is the difference between the Desktop Airliner and the Universal
Airliner cockpit?
A; The upper corners of the Desktop Airliner are a little tricky when
cutting and gluing the expanded polystyrene (EPS) body panels. You
have to make the EPS curve around those corners in order for it to fit
right.
The Universal Airliner does not require you to make any curved body
panel parts. This also means you also have more options for materials.
You can use EPS, or extruded polystyrene (XPS also known as
Styrofoam), or even flat sheets of cardboard.
Q: Can you just build it for me and ship it?
A: Not at this time. In most cases, the materials have already been
shipped to your town and are at your local home improvement store.
This saves you money. It would cost you a lot of money for us to
manufacture and ship these projects.
Q: How much is the MAACS moving flight simulator?
A: MAACS was a big research project to explore a moving flight simulator
platform and a virtual reality headset. It's not a DIY project. If there is
enough interest, we may develop a DIY moving flight sim platform in the
future.
Q: Hey! what is the price and availability if the helmets? thanks
A: We aren't selling the helmet. It was just a fun experiment. We do a
lot of experiments
Q: I can't find any EPS at the stores near my house, what else can I use?
A: Other DIY builders have had success with XPS, (extruded
polystyrene) or thick cardboard, foam board or foam core.
Q: How sturdy is that flight sim?
A: Sturdy enough for flight simulator, not sturdy enough for real
airplanes.
Q: I see that you use the CH yokes do you recommend this product over
the saitek yokes or can you advise which would be better to buy as im
just starting out
A: We don't recommend either product more than the other. Honestly,
no computer yoke is like the real thing.
Q: hey! i seen that in some of your flight sims you have 2 keyboards in 1
pc is that possible for windows xp and if so hw do you do it. thanks
A: Some of our videos include instructions for using two keyboards. If
you see a picture of it, then we include it with that video.
Q: What are the 10-16 x 1" screws you mention in the plans?
A: For the 10-16 x 1" screws, the 10 is the size of the head. The 16 is
just the thread count (16 threads per inch). The thread count is not a
vital piece of info, you might find screws with an 18 thread count, or you
may not know the thread count at all. I've used both #8 and #10 size
screws. Either one will work.
The two important ideas about using screws with PVC pipe are this:
1. Get screws that are self-drilling (or self-tapping as some folks say).
That saves you from having to drill pilot holes every time you attach a
screw.
2. Get screws that are either 3/4" or 1" long.
Q: Can you make a DIY rudder pedal tutorial?
A: Well, probably not. There are already commercial off-the-shelf rudder
pedals available from Saitek, CH Products and Logitech that are very
good. We don't want to "re-invent the wheel" because you usually end up
spending more in resources, time and effort.
COMPUTER QUESTIONS
Q: How do I get flight sim to work on two monitors?
A: We have two free videos that can help. Part 1 and Part 2.
Q: How do I get flight sim to work on two monitors and Windows Vista?
A: We understand that's a problem. As of this writing we have not
upgraded any of our computers to Vista because of this problem (and
others). Until we find an easy solution, we recommend the Matrox Dual
Head2 Go or Triple Head2 Go for multiple monitors.
Q: Where did you buy that yoke and throttle quadrant?
A: Check our Online Store powered by Amazon.com. You will find
everything you see in our videos: joysticks, throttles, rudder pedals,
yoke, throttle quadrants, VR 920 Virtual Headset, as well as a lot of
software, FSX add-ons and even movies.
Q: You showed in one of your videos that you had dual controls. I have
two questions reguarding this.
1. Do they both move when used?
2. Which yoke does the computer read from? Thank you in advance.
Keep up the good work.
A: You have a sharp eye. We have used dual control yokes in the past.
We used CH Products USB flight sim yokes plugged in to two different
USB ports. They are not mechanically linked so they do not move
together. The computer recognizes a command from whichever yoke is
moving at the time. For example, if the left yoke is moving, the computer
pays attention to the left yoke only. If you stop touching the left yoke,
then move the right one, the computer then gets its commands from the
right yoke. One or the other, not both at the same time.
Actually, this works out well because we don't want both pilots trying to fly
at the same time either in a simulator or in a real airplane.
Q: Hi, I bought a video card, nvidia 8400 512gb and the card I had
before, an nvidia 4000 128gb was running my simulator better then the
one i got now! What cuould be happening? Its four times better and it
doesn't run it better then the 128 Please help me! What can i do.
A: Please contact the manufacturer's technical support.
Q: I have two computers and I am getting ready to run FSX delux on both
I would like to know how do I get them to run at the same time so I can
multiply my simming experience....I want to network the computers to work
at the same time.
A: Try Peter Dowson's website. He offers software that makes this
possible.
Q: Is there a way to download the free videos that you have on your
site? I'm
trying to save them but they won't let me.
A: The free videos are online only at this time.
Q: What cool products you have. I am curious if you ever used any of
your toys with flightgear ? I am a Linux user so that is the only Sims for
use here.
A: We have not experimented with Flightgear or Linux.
Q: i was wondering what computer you use and how much was it and is it
good?
A: I find that it's not usually a person's computer or software that's
lacking, it's is the ergonomics that could use improvement. In other
words, sitting at a desk, is not like sitting in an airplane, but a few simple
additions can help a lot. Track IR is a huge help, as well as a
joystick-throttle-pedals setup (or yoke-throttle quadrant and pedals), and
our keyboard mods and cockpit enclosures help too.
I know computer stats mean a lot to some people, but I don't remember
what our newest computer is, other than it's a 1 yr old Dell with a good
graphics card.....and it is used for flight simulators only - it's not the family
computer with a bunch of unrelated stuff loaded on it.
